The first step into the unknown

06/04/2011

Left Heathrow on the 8.30pm flight and arrived 10 hours and 50mins later in Jo'berg. Excitement in the group was highlighted slightly when Captain Bob wished all on board involved with 'Get On Africa' the best of luck for our trip.

Typically when travelling, when a local guide tells you it's a '4 hour' drive to the hotel..it's always worth adding two hours to that! I wasn't far out, two hours into our journey, the driver announced it was a good three and a half hours to our final destination - Maserua, Lesotho. He hadn't allowed for the two stops at border control! However, it's more an experience than a frustration; we all know why we're here - who are we to moan about minor little hurdles?

After 20 hours of travelling, we were glad to get cleaned up before having a good brief for the week ahead. It made me excited more than anything. Keen to 'get on' the bike, and get going. I think it’s gonna be a great experience. Sad, confusing, intense, and frustrating all at the same time; frustrating because I'm sure I will want to do so much more after this week flies by.

First things first -early night and little bit more appreciative of the fact I go to bed healthy... And tomorrow? The first step into the unknown...
