Blog
Full of 'Heroes'!
13/10/2011
It's been ages since I've written a blog.. about time! Just waiting to be picked up for my trip to Afghanistan, so thought I'd take 5 and update you!
I am filming a show for BBC1 called 'Remembrance Week', and as the title suggests i will be filming 5 special programmes that will be broadcast daily in the lead up to Remembrance weekend. I have visited Basra before, but that was for 3 days - this time around I will be spending nearly 3 weeks in and around Camp Bastion. I'm really looking forward to it. I will be filming with some very special men and women, who give their all, every day, for us..for our safety. The programme will also include stories form the past, from the 1st WW to the present - highlighting the courage, sacrifice and selflessness of 'normal' people - a real insight into what was life was like for your parents/grandparents/great grandparents generation! I've seen some of the footage already, incredible.
I've spend the last few months in the company of 'Hero's'. There are only 2 episodes of Holding Out For a Hero left, and I enjoyed every second of making it. Handing over cheques with life changing amounts of money to people who have been through so much, and their only aim is to help others who have been through the same - has been a real pleasure, and extremely humbling. A lot of people have tuned in, I really hope we get to do some more next year - as it's such a positive, and in my (un-biased!) opinion, a very exciting show to watch! Well done to all our 'Hero's'!
I have another show coming out in November - which I'll tell you all about when I get back form my trip!
Ok, let's get down to business - The rugby! The boys have played out of their skin tight jerseys, full of pride, passion and with absolutely no fear! I can definitely see them getting to the final based on the momentum they've gathered, and the attitude of the squad. And then? Well, anything can happen in a cup final right! I always knew that I'd be away for the latter stages of the RWC. A lot of my friends have booked tickets for the final. That's confidence for you! 45,000 welsh fans will gather for 'Wake up for Wales' at the Millennium Stadium! Where will you be? I will be sipping on non-alcaholic beer with a load of welsh service men and women...somewhere in Afgan that has a telly, and an aerial! WHEN Wales win the world cup, I can always look back with pride to say "I watched Wales' Hero's win the RWC 2011 with some other, rather special Hero's..in Afghanistan!"
See you in a few weeks - c'mon Cymru!

We Will look forward to watching to programme. Hope the filming goes well. I'm sure you Will give our brave boys and girls a laugh or two with your fab sense of humour.
Really hope another series of HOFAH is made next year. It was a fantastic experience and a brilliant way for the charities to raise their profiles.
Keep safe Cheeky chappy:)
