29/03/2011
Gethin will be joining cricketer-turned-Strictly Come Dancing's Darren Gough, former Eastenders' actress Jill Halfpenny, Shobna Gulati and Oliver Mellor as they all swap the studio for the saddle and are currently underway in making their final preparations for the Get On Africa expedition.
Having all been undergoing motorbike training for the past two weeks, the team are are due to fly out to Lesotho on April 4 to join a charity group of health workers, Riders for Health. They will spend a week riding out to isolated villages on motorbikes in places such as Roma and Semonkong, which support some of the most poorest communities in Africa and provide health care to 30,000 people in 60 villages. Plus, the group will be joining local health workers in delivering the vital supplies in the fight against HIV and tuberculosis.
The expedition is being organised by Get On, the UK bike industry’s campaign to promote the benefits of life on two wheels. The campaign aims to show both the positive impact which bikes can have on society as well as how easy and accessible it is to learn.
The public will be able to follow the expedition every step of the way on www.geton.co.uk/africa, which launched today and will be updated every day until the end of the trip on April 10th. PLus you can follow Gethin's personal experience on Twitter, @gethincjones.
